Freelance illustrator Franziska Schütz, based out of Amsterdam, brings us a very unique style of illustration that seems to come from a different dimension all together.
Franziska's illustrations remind us of those mysterious beings that can sneak their way into our beautiful dreams, not know if they are going to bring us on a magical journey or engulf us into the darkness, which is very relevant to OPALUS's latest issue theme, 'Dream Travels in the Pastel Sky'.
Franziska's background in both fine arts and fashion design come together in her work creating, most often, female figures or portraits using her favourite medium's, ink and water-colour.
We ask the Amsterdam based freelance illustrator what inspires her to create such a unique style of illustration that seem to come from a different dimension all together. Here's what she said,
“I take a lot of inspiration from my surroundings, nightlife and everything odd and often fuse them with memories of me growing up on the countryside (Black Forest, Germany), so you can also find a lot of references to nature.
Mostly my illustrations are made up of fine black lines, but I do incorporate elements that come by chance, like random ink drops, mistakes that become something else. The actual process of drawing can lead me to directions I would not have thought of before and I have learned to embrace that.”
Schütz is definitely an illustrator to be watching!
